...and I discovered my car is essentially useless in it. Why?
a) 4.5" lower than stock, give or take. I was literally plowing the road with my oil pan by driving in the ruts other people had left; b) FWD; c) cheap summer tires; d)more power than it knows what to do with.
The one caveat to its uselessness is that it has practically zero body roll and almost bald stretched tires in the rear, making handbrake turns effortless.
(Just found out I have authorship and felt compelled to post something. I was a regular here a few years ago before the comment system got all wonky. Kinja, is it?

I like the wheels you've got on it. If only it was a MS6.

I drive a lowered car in a colder part of Canada year round. Plowing snow don't hurt nothing.

Thanks! They didn't make the MS6 in this generation unfortunately. I cross shopped with this car, and it turned out there were some serious reliability issues, which is a shame because the MS6 was literally my favorite car I've ever driven.

Yes its kinja, and prepare for it to go all crazy again. lol
Also, FWD is much, much better in snow than RWD.
I drive a Milan V6 FWD with good all seasons up here in Michigan and have no trouble in moderate snow.

I meant compared to AWD, sorry shoulda clarified that. My last car was AWD so this is a bit of an adjustment.

Oh yeah I can agree with you then.
I had 4x4 blazer's before dropping down to the little MPG saver FWD Milan.
HUGE transition

Yeah, I think a buddy of mine has the same generation of Mazda 6 as yours but in black.
I haven't ever ridden in/driven a MS6, my only experiences with them were constantly having them try and race whenever I was riding in my buddy's tuned WRX. Slick looking cars, but reliability is definitely important.

They aren't AWFUL in terms of reliability, but I was shopping for a car because I couldn't afford to maintain the one I had on a college student budget. The Mazda is now at 83k miles and has given me zero trouble aside from what I've brought on myself.

C is your biggest issue.D could be an issue, but it isn't that the car has more power than it knows what to do with, it's what you know what to do with the power. Mostly, the smooth application of it.

People in the South like to say they know how to drive in the snow, but I'll be honest and say I pretty much don't aside from the application of common sense/physics.

Speak for yourself sir.
I wouldn't have winters in Michigan any other way but RWD.

What'd you have before? I'm almost at that point myself with my 21 year old car. Tough decision to make.

lol. I didn't say more FUN in the snow. I mean better as more functional/capable. (Which CLEARLY is the wrong definition)

2004 Volvo S60 R 6MT.
They have no resale value so I was able to buy one reasonably cheap that had $2k in recent work done.

mmmm. Very nice.

Mostly the summer tires. I drove a Miata through 4 Wisconsin winters with snow tires.

Man, that's such a sleek looking car. Very nice!
